Giant Defy's in stock ...including the 1. Updated 26/05/14 now at £850
Defy 1's here at present .......................................
X/large x1 £875
large...... 1 white £875
M/large 1 £875
Medium (triple ) 1£799
The main upgrades the 1 has over the other (very worthy ) bikes in the Defy range can be seen in the pics but I will spell them out.
Firstly, Shimano 105 STI shifters and derailleurs.
Secondly it is the only aluminium Defy with carbon seatpost which helps add feel and comfort whilst lowering weight and maintaining rigidity.
Very important upgrade is the press fit BB. This in the past has been only reserved for the more expensive carbon bikes.A press fit BB can improve rigidity in the crucial BB area by approx 25%. Therefore this is a very important upgrade over the other bikes.
The handlebars are the wider and much better looking 31.8mm which improves feel and also improves handling whilst descending.
10 speed 11 28 rear cassette for wide range of gear changing which along with compact chainset gives you best and most versatile gearing for allround performance.
The 1 is the only model with DT Swiss Competition spokes as opposed to Black stainless spokes.
Giant connect handlebars and stem as opposed to Giant Sport on the other models.(Weight saving).
The 1 is the only model to have the P-R2 wheels which have 24/28 hole as opposed to 32 hole on the S-R2 wheels fitted to other Defy's.Bearings on the P-R2 are fully sealed.
O.K so there you have it.You make your own choice depending I suppose on your budget. Rest assured that whichever Giant Defy you decide on you are unlikely to find any other bike which will perform as well as the Defy. Giant have much more money available for research and design and testing than any other company . They now make many bikes for all the companies you are also looking at, for example, all the non lugged Colnagos ,the Scotts , some Treks......the list goes on !!
